3D Printed Linearly Polarized X-Band Conical Horn Antenna and Lens

A low-cost method to 3D print and metalize circular waveguide components is demonstrated using polylactic acid (PLA) aluminum adhesive backed tape. gradient index (GRIN) lens, an externally metalized thin-walled conical horn, a WR90 rectangular linearly polarized transition are simulated, fabricated, measured. The horn lens were both monolithic prints that metallized simplify the metallization process. Both have measured operational bandwidth of 8.2 GHz 12.4 with input reflection less than -15 dB peak gain 18.7 dBi at mid-band. walls thin-wall printed thickness such dielectric layer does not impact performance while being robust enough support external metallization. lensed functioned as for foil also improving radiation pattern by E SLL up 15 compared antenna.
